The King of Pentacles is a leader, a father figure. He has great business skills, is responsible and he provides support for those around him. This is the daddy keeping his kids well fed. He works hard, he’s successful and he knows how to enjoy the finer things in life. The King doesn’t necessarily have to represent a male, as we shall see from the Muse Tarot.
But first, let’s start with the contented looking masculine figure in the Pastel Prism Tarot by Jad Mady. This is one happy, successful and satisfied King, even the cloud in the sky is smiling down on him. He sits on a throne in the garden outside his castle, finely dressed and holding symbols of his wealth. His eyes are closed, his face relaxed and contented. He has worked hard to get this far, to be able to provide for his family, with stability and consistency. He’s great at managing his resources and with his feet firmly grounded, he makes a sure leader with his skills and business flair.
In Chris-Anne’s The Muse Tarot, the King cards are called “Muses” and the cards are landscape in format. This gives a sense of completion, of getting to the top of each suit and the Muses embody the positive energy that each suit represents. In this case it’s “Materials”. A woman can be seen walking across a bridge towards a beautiful garden, passing the luscious green of the trees bearing huge fruits as she walks. Two women wearing flowers in full bloom guide her way. This card represents abundance and prosperity and the earthly energy of material success. There is a sense of gratitude and wonder and what this garden can provide when taken care of. After the hard work is done, it’s time to enjoy the comforts and benefits it provides. As the author herself writes, “Seek the grounding energy of earthly delights, and know that your own fertile lands are blooming now.”
Everything is lush and rich looking in the Gilded Tarot Royale version of the King of Pentacles by Ciro Marchetti. The King sits on his golden throne staring right at you. His hands appear oversized as he holds his golden baton out. This King is a responsible leader, the ruler of agriculture, he is laborious and patient. He sits here in his garden, not in his castle, taking a break and enjoying his life. He knows however, that the good life alone cannot satisfy him. Luxury comes after the hard work.
A great card to draw in a reading, the King of Pentacles is one of success, prosperity and the earthy, material things in life. This King can represent a business person, father figure or a socially responsible provider. It’s a sign that you’ve made it, but can also be a warning to not become lazy or dependant on material things. Over doing it could lead to debt. Be grateful for what you have and what you have achieved and enjoy the luxuries that life has to offer, responsibly and within your means. Remember, this King is a great manager of resources.
