This card says it’s time to harvest the fruits of your labour, look back at all the hard work and all you have achieved through discipline. You are self reliant, financially independent and successful, so it’s time to treat yourself! Pentacles represent the material side of things in life, but material wealth isn’t the only aspect this card represents- a richness of spirit and an appreciation of the abundance in your life is also symbolised in these three very different cards.
The gorgeous Morgan-Greer Tarot uses bold colours throughout the deck and this card really stands out with the rich and majestic deep tones of purple. The bright golden pentacles stand out against the woman’s dark overalls and skin tone. Her large brown eyes reveal as sense of satisfaction and accomplishment as she stands confidently with the hooded falcon resting on her gloved hand. She is in control. Her riches are symbolised by the fruits she bears, her glamorous robes and turban and the jewels she wears. She has made the right choices along the way and created herself as a self sufficient woman, her feeling of fulfilment radiates from within her. This wealthy lady is satisfied and at peace.
Our sleeping bear in the Guardian of the Night Tarot by MJ Cullinane also looks totally at peace and at ease with the rhythm of life. He is in harmony with his environment, well fed and trusting that he will be safe during his time of hibernation. A time of rest and renewal, self care and relaxation after the hard work of gathering his food. This card says it’s time to treat yourself, to splurge within your means, and make life - whatever your circumstances are- just a little bit more enjoyable.
The woman in our next 9, the Sufi Tarot by Ayeda Husain, stands with her dress in hands, stretched out like a net to collect the falling fruits and pentacles from the tree. The sunlight glows through the leaves and she has an expression of pure joy on her face. This is not about material wealth or financial success, but more about what is sustaining her soul. Her prize for her hard work is nothing that money can buy, but is found in the experiences and relationships she has, in her appreciation of the abundance that she has created. The tree of life symbolised in the image does not just sustain our bodies, but also our spirits. Whatever this woman has set out to do and has achieved, she is at peace, satisfied, she can look back at her efforts and enjoy her reward, being aware of what really matters in life.
The 9 of pentacles shows us that life is productive, we can succeed when we work hard. We can evolve as a person when we make the right decisions and become self sufficient. Look back at what you have created for yourself and enjoy the abundance. Go ahead and treat yourself. Like the bear in hibernation, after a break to take care of yourself and to enjoy life, we can ease back in to what life throws at us with a deeper sense of peace and satisfaction.
